Congratulations goes out to the Carolina Panthers who have been attributed with having the NFL’s most diverse coaching staff at 55.6%.  Ron Rivera, head coach of the Panthers, explained he was simply hiring the “best guys” and didn’t even realize the Panthers were at the top in League diversity.  For the NFL as a whole, coaching staffs are not very diverse.  According to a recent ESPN article “there have been 22 first-time head coaches selected since 2012, and only one – the Jets’ Todd Bowles – is black. That 21-to-1 mark is equal to the 22 first-time hires between 1997-2001 – years before the Rooney Rule existed.”
