As an African American (or black American, whichever you prefer), I have mixed feelings about Facebook’s recruitment point system.  On one hand, it’s nice to see Facebook identify a problem (an inability to connect with and hire black and Hispanics) and look for ways to solve it.  On the other hand, connecting someone’s performance as a recruiter with their ability to attract diverse hirings isn’t the best solution.  Allocating an additional point per diverse hiring can lead to resentment by potential employees and discrimination by current ones.

I understand that Facebook is lost when it comes to hiring black and Hispanics, but this extreme is not the answer.  Despite what people say, there are enough qualified candidates in the pipeline to increase Facebook’s black and Hispanic numbers past 1.7% and 4.3% respectively.  

As an outside who has no idea how Facebook is going about recruiting, I cannot give a realistic solution, but I will commend the company for looking to diversify its employee base.  With that being said, if you have not already done so, get rid of the 2 for 1 point system immediately.
