Diversity will lead to the end of America; according to Victor Davis Hanson of Real Clear Politics. Hanson is so alarmed at the thought of diversity that he professes it’s evil by exclaiming “The Roman Empire worked as long as Iberians, Greeks, Jews, Gauls and myriad other African, Asian and European communities spoke Latin, cherished habeas corpus and saw being Roman as preferable to identifying with their own particular tribe. By the fifth century, diversity had won out but would soon prove a fatal liability.”
Yea, that’s right….according to Hanson, diversity led to the fall of the Roman Empire…..
Please contain your chuckles for a moment. I do not believe Hanson believes this, but merely pushes it as an extreme example of where diversity initiatives can lead. He does make some interesting points when asking, for example, what will happen when “whites” ultimately become a minority. Can they then benefit for minority programs? I think this thought process ultimately explains his understanding of diversity programs for under represented groups in America. That being, he has little to no understanding of them.
His ignorance is clearly what leads to this massively uneducated article. Diversity is not a pathway to chaos or the initiative that will divide America and lead to war. The US has had many wars in it’s history, none of which have been over “diversity concerns”. Diversity essentially mandates organizations and communities award opportunity for all who qualify. If whites ever do become a minority in terms of population, then diversity programs will still be needed as many within the population will still be under represented (i.e. South Africa).
There are indeed more women graduating now then ever before (a product of Affirmative Action, but I digress), but in what fields? How can we as a nation push this growing number of talent into emerging markets like STEM? Diversity in a investment portfolio is smart, but diversity in an organization is the second coming of the Civil War? This makes no sense.
Is diversity perfect? Heck no!!! But it’s a process to identify key weaknesses in America and figure out ways to improve upon them.
Cherry picking stats and taking extreme stances is what’s wrong with America. Extreme stances are what lead to war and chaos within nations. Programs designed to grant more people opportunities should not be demonized. We have programs for small businesses. Why? Because we understand that statistically business with less revenue and less employees need help to establish themselves. Why people cannot do the same as it pertains to gender, or race, or non military members, I will never know.
