Mohan Bhagwat is the Chief, of the Hindu nationalist organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in India.  At a speech given to “a gathering at the Siddhi Vinayak temple in Dandiya Bazaa”, Bhagwat spoke about India’s strength in diversity.  To Bhagwat, the country’s diversity is something that must be celebrated and respected in order to continue India’s rise to prominence.

For India, diversity is not just ethnic, but spiritual as well.  When people of different genres can connect and support each other, India is at its best.  Like America, India’’s history with diverse groups is divisive, but progress is being made.  With more countries recognizing the importance of diversity, this will only result in more open dialogue as all countries become increasingly global.

In his speech, Bhagwat stated that “Foreigners often wonder how Indians live amid such a diversity. Even the British believed that Indians would fight among themselves if the country was granted freedom.  We consider diversity a matter of celebration rather than a problem. Bharat has to spread the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.”
