Grubhub is “an online and mobile food-ordering company that connects diners with local restaurants.” Currently a crowded market, Grubhub is looking for ways to showcase its offering and increase its market share. One benefit the company has moving forward is a diverse executive team, with 4 of the 8 positions currently being housed by women.
This is nothing new for the company, whose 1,000+ workforce is 43% female. In addition, “as of March, 23% of the company’s engineers are women”, which is a larger percentage of female engineers than the US average (around 13%).
GrubHub’s openness to hire and promote female employees comes from its CEO Matt Maloney. In discussing his company’s gender diversity he states “My first three jobs out of college I worked for women. Maybe that’s just the benefit of my experience. It just never entered my mind.”
Grubhub is doing a great job leading the industry in workforce diversity. Hopefully this will continue industry wide and really push the need and value of female workers.
