Last night the Department of Defense (DoD) hosted its annual Disability Awards at the Pentagon. The awards honored 18 service members and civilians for their commitment to the DoD’s mission.
Defense Secretary Ash Carter spoke at the event to highlight the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. "The Defense Department’s enduring commitment to diversity and inclusion is significant to giving the nation the finest fighting force the world has ever known.“
The DoD has pledged to increase its number of employees with disabilities to two percent across the entire department. Carter said he encourages all DoD components and military departments to honor the mission to make the workplace accessible to all. ”..We will continue to keep America safe long into the future by harnessing the talents, skills, and perspectives of 100 percent of America’s population.”
