Independence Health Group (IHG) affiliates spent $76.5 million with minority and women owned companies in 2014, and over $500 million in the past decade.  In a recent study conducted by Scott Vowels, PhD, Founder of The Institute for Thought Diversity (ITD), the report found that in 2014, “IHG’s hiring of diverse suppliers contributed $238 million to the economy, created 1,082 jobs paying $57.9M in salaries and benefits, and generated $19.1 million in tax revenue (federal, state and local).”

In looking at specifics, “Women-Owned Businesses contributed $117.3 million to the economy, created 567 jobs paying $28.6M in salaries and benefits and generated $9.4 million in tax revenue (federal, state and local). Multicultural Businesses contributed $98.7 million to the economy, created 365 jobs paying $21.9 in salaries and benefits and generated $7 million in tax revenue (federal, state and local).”

Congratulations to IHG’s commitment to local diversity in the city of Philadelphia and its successes.  Hopefully 2015 and 2016 report similar results.
