According to the “Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey, released…by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and American Express”  Small Business Saturday set a record with an estimated 112 million shoppers supporting small businesses. Advertising dollars were well spent with 72% of U.S. consumers aware that Saturday was a small business holiday.  In addition to attending events, 81% (this blog included) “reported encouraging friends or family to shop or dine at small, independently-owned retailers and restaurants.”

Government officials and large corporations helped support the event as well with over 100 corporations signing on to be Corporate Sponsors and elected officials in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. promoting the event to their constituents.

As we move forward, American Express does not want to relegate their support of small business to one day.  "To keep support for small business strong through the rest of the holiday season, American Express is giving Card Members the opportunity to earn 2x rewards when they enroll an eligible American Express® Card at and shop at qualifying small merchants both in-store and online now through December 31st.“

Please check out the American Express link and keep supporting small businesses through the rest of the year!

PS:  Small Business Saturday was not a resounding success however, as initial reports are suggesting US consumers spent $15.4 billion on the day, "a decrease from the estimated $16.2 billion spent in 2015.”  Still, over $15 billion for two years straight is its own record and reward.
