Although Suicide Squad received mixed reviews, Margot Robbie’s performance as Harley Quinn was considered a rousing success by all critics and film viewers alike. The biggest criticism of the Harley Quinn character during the Suicide Squad was that she didn’t have enough screen time.
With such success, rumors have floated around that Margot Robbie would receive her own spinoff movie in the near future. The rumors were right as yesterday it was announced that Robbie would be starring in Gotham City Sirens, a film covering the all female villain trio of Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, David Ayer, director of the Suicide Squad will direct and produce the upcoming film while Robbie will be acting and executive producing the film. In addition “Geneva Robertson-Dworet, a top female writer in the action sphere who also has penned scripts for the Tomb Raider remake and Warners’ own Sherlock Holmes 3, is writing the screenplay. The heads of DC’s film arm, Geoff Johns and Jon Berg, also will be involved in a producorial role.”
This is great news and I can’t wait to see what happens. Furthermore an upcoming Deadshot film staring Will Smith is supposedly in the works as well.
