Congratulations to the Small Business Administration on winning Harvard’s 2017 Bright Ideas in Government award for its efforts to promote and advance LGBT businesses.

According to the Washington Blade (get ready for some long names), “The SBA Office of Field Operations LGBT Business Builder Outreach Initiative was honored by the Ash Center for Democratic Government and Innovation at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.”  The program began in 2015 with the partnership of the SBA and the NGLCC for the purposes of creating “an education and outreach initiative on SBA programs and services and the NGLCC’s LGBT certification.”

This is another win for supplier diversity and showcases the continued advancement of LGBT businesses in America.  As mentioned previously, the LGBT economy is estimated to be worth $1.7 trillion and growing.  As the community expands small businesses will continue to rise and represent their community furthering their economic goals.  Programs like the ones at the SBA are important to helping further their goals and expand their reach.

These programs are exactly how the government should work.  Partner with organizations to help educate businesses on opportunities.
