The House of Representatives have passed legislation that “would let employers give workers paid time off instead of time-and-a-half pay the next time they put in extra hours.”  The legislation which had been touted by the GOP and backed by President Trump, is called the Working Families Flexibility Act and attempts to provide structure and flexibility for employees.

House Democrats strongly opposed the recent legislation stating that employers have the final say on employees comp time which means employers can determine when they choose to pay overtime.  This is not good because some families need the money more than the time off. Sen. Elizabeth Warren voiced her displeasure with the legislation on Twitter, stating that the bill is a “disgrace.” The Senate is currently in committee over a similar bill sponsored by Sen. Mike Lee of Utah.

During our next podcast, Jaymie and I will review the bill and give our thoughts and concerns about it, so please stayed tuned and watch for it.
