The Billion Dollar Roundtable (BDR), which acknowledges organizations that purchase over $1 billion with minority and women owned suppliers, has now expanded their accepted spend type to include LGBT, Disabled, and Veteran Owned Businesses.  The BDR came to this decision after an unanimous vote by its current members.  This major news as, with the expansion, organizations will now be pushed and rewarded for “tracking; reporting and focusing on diversity spend beyond minority-owned and women-owned businesses.”

According to a Press Release, the “Governance Committee of the BDR is responsible for setting standards and metrics for BDR membership. This committee met over several months to benchmark and review many certification processes by organizations for various classes of spend.”  Officially these diversity spend suppliers will be recognized as LGBT Business Enterprises (LGBTBEs), Disability-Owned Business Enterprises (DOBEs®), Service-Disabled Veteran Disability-Owned Business Enterprises (SDV-DOBE™) and Veteran-Disability Owned Business Enterprises (V-DOBEs™)

This information will also be pertinent for organizations that certified these diverse suppliers including the National Veteran Business Development Council (NVBDC), the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), and the US Business Leadership Network (USBLN), or the disability inclusion business resource.  We would like to be the first to congratulate all certifying bodies involved and support the new move to create a more inclusive supply chain for business owners.
