Blizzard Entertainment released an internal memo announcing a new “global diversity and inclusion initiative” for the purpose of recruiting and retaining more female and minority employees “that are currently underrepresented at the Irvine, California-based giant.”  Blizzard are the developers of popular gaming titles including World of Warcraft and Overwatch.

According Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime, “women make up 21 percent of Blizzard’s workforce currently, while underrepresented minority groups stand at 14 percent.”  In addition, female developers leave Blizzard “at a higher rate than men,”  The hope is to increase these numbers while decreasing the rate of female exits.  When it comes to diversity initiatives, no one company, particularly in Tech has done a great job in increasing their numbers, however raising awareness has create some positive beginnings.  As the conversation continues around improving corporate employee breakdowns hopefully better ideas come to the forefront to create ways to increase representation from all parties.
