Great news for Maine small businesses looking to export products overseas.  The State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) has awarded $195,000 to the Maine International Trade Center for businesses to enter or expand into the global market.  The federal grant will be given in blocks of up to $10,500 for small businesses looking to cover export expansion costs.

The STEP grant is an upgrade from a previous grant of $145,000 which helped to support “39 company projects in overseas markets resulted in $22 million in new exports, a 150-to-1 return on investment.”  The new grant is expected to go even further in helping small businesses located in the port state of Maine reach a global consumer base.
