October is women’s small business month and on October 3rd, Michelle Obama spoke with Shonda Rhimes at a Philadelphia women’s conference to discuss business and politics. According to Obama, one of the biggest issues when it comes to politics, is the lack of diversity in the political landscape. This lack of diversity leads to distrust and ultimately makes it harder to pass legislation.
According to US News. “Obama recalled seeing a split in Congress while attending her husband’s State of the Union addresses at the Capitol. She says one side of the room was “all men, all white,” while the other side had there were some women and people of color.” An interesting comment no doubt, but despite the distrust, the “all male, all white” group now runs 70% of states in the US and is the majority party in the House, Senate, and White House.
Regardless, at some point both parties will need to diversify to survive and that need is coming sooner rather than later.
