The Private Equity Women’s Initiative is a growing partnership between the National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC) and the American Investment Council (AIC) with the goal of increasing opportunities for women in the private equity space.  A few weeks ago the initiative hosted its second annual Forum where over 80 top PE professionals “worked to identify the best practices to recruit, retain, and advance women within the private equity industry.”  The event “included interactive discussions, case study analyses, networking opportunities, and insight from top industry executives.”

With women making up only about 14% of senior-level positions in the industry, efforts like these have been deemed necessary to enact change.  Representatives from two of the largest public pension funds attended the event to speak with professionals on the initiative and exchange ideas on how to improve women in upper management.  These representatives were Ted Eliopoulos, Chief Investment Officer of CalPERS, and Scott Evans, Chief Investment Officer of New York City Retirement Systems. “The Forum also included a roundtable discussion where participants considered solutions to the challenges of gender diversity.”
