In a stark change from previous conferences, the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Summit, scheduled to take place in early June will include an exclusive “Charlotte-only session” in an effort to “connect local entrepreneurs with local contracting opportunities.”

This is an amazing concept and one that I believe will add to the attraction of the conference.  Gaining support for events like these are crucial and offering an exclusive opportunity for hometown suppliers is a definite attraction for local suppliers not seen anywhere else. “Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said the session is meant to advance the city’s efforts to improve the local climate for minority-owned businesses. The session will include businesses as well as government entities.”

Estimates for this year’s event have come in around 1,200 and will take place at the Charlotte Convention Center.  In addition, “organizers also announced an event called Black Food Truck Thursday on June 7. The food event, meant to spotlight black-owned restaurants, is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. near the Harvey B. Gantt Center.”
