ExporTech Detroit is a 10 week program aimed at educating companies on international sales and and establishing global partnerships.  The initiative is part of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation’s “Built in Detroit” push that ultimately wants to increase the city’s offering on a global scale.

According to Peter Chapman, DEGC’s executive vice president of business development “foreign direct investment and helping existing businesses through export related activities is a must for many Detroit small businesses.”  With the city out of bankruptcy and “expected to have a fourth consecutive year with a balanced budget”, new opportunities abroad are key.

ExporTech was developed by the U.S. Commerce department. It allows participants to present their strategies to a panel of experienced exporters and aims to create an international trade ecosystem so that businesses that have graduated can continue to consult with each other.
