It was recently announced that the energy giant Exelon spent more than $2 billion with diverse suppliers in 2017. Due to its commitment, the Chicago Minority Supplier Development Council, Inc. (ChicagoMSDC) recognized the corporation, along with ComEd, as the Council’s Corporation of the Year for supporting minority owned businesses. According to the press release, this is “the first time in the Council’s 51-year history that two corporations received the award for empowering minority businesses.”
ComEd received the award along side Exelon after contributing $711 or almost 40% of Exelon’s $2 billion with diverse suppliers. In addition Exelon’s $2 billion made up about 22% of the companies total spend with Tier 1 suppliers.
Last year, Exelon was the first energy company inducted into the Billion Dollar Roundtable Inc. (BDR), a top-level advocacy organization that promotes excellence in corporate supplier diversity.
