Last month, Walmart revealed it’s new “Supplier Inclusion Showcase” focused on spotlighting diverse suppliers within its network.  The goal of the initiative is to give an audience to the growing supply base reflecting America’s ethnically diverse population.  Walmart’s showcase includes “companies operated by minorities, women, veterans, members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, and people with disabilities.”

The initial promotion began at this year’s Essence Festival in New Orleans, an event Walmart has sponsored since 2007.  Currently Walmart spends over a billion dollars with more than 2,600 diverse suppliers.  Since the Essence Festival, the “Supplier Inclusion Showcase” has continued updating more suppliers and shining a spotlight on multiple services and products offered by people from under represented groups.
