The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity’s Office of Trade and Investment has been awarded $700,000 in federal funds by the Small Business Administration. The award will go to support small business export growth within the state.

Interested businesses looking to expand their export capabilities can apply for a portion of the federal fund through the Illinois State Trade Expansion Program (ISTEP).

According to the Central Illinois is Proud website, the “ISTEP program is highly competitive. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are considered on a rolling basis. Qualified Illinois businesses can use the ISTEP program financial assistance for state-organized group trade missions, individual foreign market sales missions, product compliance, website localization, and export training.”

It seems that there are more and more federal funds promoting exporting now a days and if you qualify in this category it may be a great time to look for opportunities through your local state and federal government.
