Amazon seems to be drawing closer to making its delivery partnership program a reality after purchasing 20,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans to aid small businesses in executing its “last mile” vision.  The “last mile” refers to the final step of the delivery process for Amazon between a warehouse and the home or office of a buyer.”According to a report by Business Insider, the last mile problem is full of inefficiencies and it accounts for 53% of the overall total cost of shipping.”

The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has been provided by Daimler AG’s North Charleston, South Carolina facility and will assist small businesses by farming “out the Sprinter vans to fleet-management companies” who will “in turn, will buy and lease them to local small businesses to provide the delivery of the last mile.”

According to Small Business Trends, “Amazon will also assist small businesses by providing access to delivery technology, uniforms, insurance, fuel and more.”

If this works, there may be tons of new and potential revenue available to people wanting to start their own business in the field of delivery.  A great opportunity for everyone involved.
