Bob Evans Farms, Inc. has launched its third annual “Heroes to CEOs” grant-giving program. The contest is open to all veterans who have a plan for an independent business or own an independent registered business. Nonprofits are also eligible to join.

Bob Evans Farms, in partnership with nonprofit group Bunker Labs, will select veteran-owned businesses to attend a sales pitch event on April 25, 2019. They will be assisted by investor and businessman Daymond John to refine their pitch in order to win the business grant amounting to $30,000.

Veteran entrepreneurs will be required to submit multimedia assets in a video format, a plan for their business concept, and answer questions about their business.

Eligible entries will be evaluated and scored based on future success of the business, opportunity, feasibility, and presentation.

Entries will be accepted from February 18 to March 20.

Bob Evans Farms CEO Mike Townsley said they have found that veteran entrepreneurs face unique challenges and they want to create a beneficial and distinct opportunity for them. Bunker Labs chapter operations head Tim O’Neill noted that almost 25% of more than 200,000 service members that transition from active duty are interested in starting their own business but only 4.5% will do so.
