Qatar Airways has teamed with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to launch the IATA Diversity and Inclusion Awards to boost gender diversity in the aviation industry. There will be three categories, each with prize money of $25,000 payable to the awardee or to a chosen charity that is working on inclusion and diversity projects.
The “inspirational role model” award will recognize a female executive with a senior level position in the aviation industry who is more than 30 years old, who supports the promotion of diversity and who has had a major impact on the aviation agenda.
The “high flyer award” will be presented to a female employee under 30 years old who has shown leadership in the industry through her inspirational work.
The “diversity and inclusion team award” will recognize an airline that has had a major improvement in employee diversity.
The nominations for the awards will be from February 26 to March 31st, 2019. The first of these awards will presented at the 75th Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit of IATA in South Korea from June 1st to 3rd.
Qatar Group Chief Executive Akbar Al-Baker said they feel the need to promote greater diversification and inclusion in the airline community and they are delighted to recognize individuals and teams who are showing that diversification is the way forward for the industry.
