Bid-On-Equipment analyzed 236 U.S. cities to determine the 50 best locations to start a restaurant business. The company evaluated four factors and each was assigned points with a total of 100 points. These factors include the median income in each city (15 points), restaurants per capita (25 points), annual restaurant sales per capita (50 points) and number of restaurant industry workers per capita (10 points).
The analysis revealed that Arlington, Virginia is the best city to open a restaurant, with a median income of $108,706, 377 restaurants, per capita sales or $4,556 and a total of 7,711 workers.
Other cities included in the top 10 were Ann Arbor, Michigan; Washington D.C.; San Francisco, California; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Boston, Massachusetts; Plano, Texas; Seattle, Washington and Bellevue, Washington.
Some cities traditionally known for having the best restaurants were not included in the top 10 or even in the top 50. The study also found that small restaurants thriving in small cities make up a huge percentage of the restaurant sector.
