Managed care organization AmeriHealth Caritas’ investment in diverse businesses in Pennsylvania has increased by 87 percent from 2013-2017 because of the success of its Supplier Diversity and Mentor Protégé business programs. This enabled diverse firms to grow and prosper.

More than $26 million of AmeriHealth’s investments in local goods and services in 2017 went to companies owned by people with disabilities, veterans, women and minorities.

According to AmeriHealth chairman and CEO Paul Tufano, inclusion and diversity is integral to their procurement process because it helps strengthen their connection to the communities they serve. He also said that their commitment to diversity is reflected in their hiring and professional development programs. Supplier management and diversity director Ronald Baldwin added that the growth of diverse businesses helps generate additional jobs and puts them in a position to support AmeriHealth and other businesses.

AmeriHealth Caritas also supports the small business certification efforts of the Bureau of Diversity, Inclusion and Small Businesses Opportunities.
