Earlier this month, Airbnb appointed Melissa C. Thomas-Hunt to become its Head of Global Diversity and Belonging. Thomas-Hunt will oversee the firm’s internal programs for diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging.

Thomas-Hunt has more than 20 years of experience in global team building and diversity programs. She worked as Global Chief Diversity Officer of the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business and recently served as vice provost for Inclusive Excellence at Vanderbilt University where she helped advance diversity, inclusion and equity in academic research.

Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky said that they are grateful that Thomas-Hunt agreed to bring her expertise and leadership to Airbnb, given her experience and expertise in identifying the causes of inequality and finding solutions to promote inclusion. Thomas-Hunt said in a press release that she felt deeply for the mission the purpose of Airbnb and she is honored to join the company.
