Tennis player Serena Williams has officially launched Serena Ventures. Williams posted on Instagram that since 2014 she has invested in more than 30 companies “that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity and opportunity.”

The recipients of Williams’ investments include financial software company Propel, reproductive care company Lola and online learning resource Masterclass. The common focus of many of the companies was their efforts to empower women and people of color.

Williams explained that Serena Ventures aims to encourage collaboration among portfolio companies, mentor young business founders and expand partnership opportunities across her vast network.

She is no stranger to business. She launched her own clothing line called Serena in 2018 and is currently a board member of SurveyMonkey and Poshmark. In March 2019, she also announced investment in Bumble’s Bumble Fund which “backs early-stage businesses founded and led by underrepresented groups and women of color”.

CPA Alison J. Rapaport serves as vice president and oversees the portfolio of Serena Ventures and the sourcing of new investments.
