Myarklamiss | A proposed bill sponsored by Rep. Franklin Foil, which would create the Veterans First Business Initiative, has moved to the full Senate for debate and one step from final passage.

The bill would require the Economic Development Agency to certify veteran-owned businesses, create an insignia for them and create a database where customers can reach these businesses. Governor John Bel Edwards testified in support of the measure and said there are about 42,000 veteran-owned businesses in the state. He is a former Army Ranger.
