In a TEDTalk, artificial intelligence (AI) technologist Kriti Sharma said that the biggest concern for the future development of AI is that it will reinforce human biases. As an example, she said that since men are more likely to be computer programmers, a recruitment algorithm can assume that males are the preferable applicants and will filter out female candidates.

Sharma added that biases are reinforced by genders assigned to AI-powered devices. Female voices were used for AI technologies that people give orders to, like Alexa and Siri. But more powerful AI programs are designated as male, such as Watson.
