Channel News Asia | McLaren has launched the second edition of the esports Shadow Project and is hoping to attract participants with greater diversity.
According to McLaren head of esports Ben Payne, they were inspired by W Series all-female Formula car racing and they want to see how they can tell the stories of the women race car drivers virtually. They also want to bring more diversity for 2019 because all the finalists in last year’s Formula One esports series were men. The 2019 winner will have access to the driver development program and will be included in Formula One team’s esports rosters. Last year’s winner Igor Fraga is already competing in virtual races and in the European F3 regional championship. The Shadow Project finals will be held in December 2019, after the Formula One season.
