A bill sponsored by Rep. Franklin Foil, which aims to create a database and a program for certification of veteran-owned businesses, has been approved by the Louisiana House with a vote of 98-0.

The legislation would create the Veterans First Business Initiative within the Economic Development Agency (EDA) and will certify veteran-owned businesses and create an insignia for them. The agency will also create a searchable database so that customers can easily locate veterans if they are looking for suppliers or simply want to help veterans. The measure has already been endorsed to Gov. John Bel Edwards, who supports the bill being a former Army Ranger himself.
