Google has released a report which reveals an increase in the Internet search for small businesses in the U.S. According to the report, the Internet search for “local” + “near me” in 2019 has increased by 350 times compared to 2009. While the online search for the so-called mom and pop shops has reached a three-year high. Popular searches include coffee shops, pharmacies, diners and restaurants. The Internet search for “local shops” reached a record high in 2018.

The top states for “local shops” searches include West Virginia, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania. Google.org has pledged $10 million to provide capital and training to help underrepresented and low-income entrepreneurs to start new businesses.
