In an interview on the Small Business Radio Show, Blue Summit Suppliers founder and CEO Owen Franklin discussed how he used Amazon’s marketplace to build his company and become one of the largest third-party sellers of office supplies on the platform.

Owen was a former rocket designer and started his office supplies business by researching how to make money on the Internet. Amazon was instrumental in providing him with the data infrastructure that he needed to compete with larger companies. The e-commerce giant also helped him in promoting his products through Amazon advertising.

To those planning to become Amazon third-party sellers, Owen recommends doing their homework to understand how online selling works. He said working with Amazon can be challenging since it is very data-intensive. Sellers should have a solid economic offer to succeed, especially if they are selling a commodity.
