The latest Supplier Diversity Report Card released by The Greenlining Institute shows that companies regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) have increased their contracting and spending with diverse suppliers.

Most firms increased their procurement spending with minority businesses in 2018, with Verizon Wireless and Sprint at the top of the rankings. However, the cable industry lags, with Cox and Comcast receiving F ratings.

The report also found an increase in contracting with Latino- and LGBT-owned businesses but the overall level remains relatively low. Spending with women-owned companies remained flat. According to Debra Gore-Mann, president and CEO of The Greenlining Institute, CPUC’s General Order 156 helped create more contracting opportunities for diverse suppliers.
