Veteran-owned businesses (VOBs) will play a lead role in the recovery of the American economy from the COVID-19 pandemic. These businesses contribute $1.14 trillion annually to the national economy and employ 5.8 million Americans. Veterans are also training to respond to volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environments and conditions. Many VOBs have tactically pivoted their businesses to provide services in response to the pandemic. Many of them are not only surviving but also surviving. But they need support to reinvigorate the economy. American business and nonprofit leaders can support VOBs by doing business with them, hiring and training more veterans, sharing positive experiences with VOBs publicly and promoting VOBs and veteran business leaders on social media.
