CBS has set a target to include 50% Black, Indigenous or People of Color (BIPOC) cast for its unscripted shows. It has also allocated at least 25% of its annual budget for unscripted development towards BIPOC creators and producers. These targets will start in the 2021-22 broadcast season.
CBS Entertainment Group’s president and CEO George Cheeks said the reality TV genre is especially underrepresented and the targets they set are important first steps in sourcing new voices to create content and further expanding the diversity of their unscripted programming, as well as on their Network.
CBS will also conduct sensitivity/bias and anti-harassment training for cast and crew before production. There will also be an on-site professional to facilitate confidential reporting of concerns.
