The diversity data submitted by Amazon to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission showed that the company hired almost 379,000 people in 2020. Eighty percent of the new hires were categorized as laborers and helpers, 60% of whom were people of color. Overall, people of color made up 73% of warehouse and fulfillment employees and only 19% of executive-level roles.

Black employees made up around 85% of warehouse staff, that figure is only 54% for whites. There was also a split between men and women. Women accounted for around 46% of employees, but men hold more than 70% of executive and manager roles.

The good news is that Amazon made some gains at the executive levels. People of color made up 42% of newly hired executive-level employees and 63% of corporate professionals.
